Con Kennedy has joined the Design, Print and Packaging Skillnet steering committee in an advisory role to help develop the Skillnet’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme for those involved in the design and printing industries.

Con has undertaken a comprehensive study into the skills, skill deficits and the benefits to the design and visual communications sector in engaging with professional development and in particular, a certified CPD Programme.

This research identified a number of potential models for the delivery of such programme and the need for industry to fully participate and commit to continuous development.

This weekend saw Dublin host the annual conference of AtypI. Entitled "The Word", the conference brought together some of the world's most influential typographic designers and academics to Dublin Castle.

Con Kennedy was amongst the 400 strong delegation that included Ellen Lupton, Erik Spiekermann, Jean François Porchez and Jos Buivenga.

The many of the seminars had an Irish theme and discussed concepts of Irish Identity, Irish Script, the printing of Proclamation of Independence and also covered talks on iconic Irish brands such as Jacob's Biscuits and Aer Lingus. There was also a debate regarding the classification of the Irish scrip, where the speaker cited Con Kennedy as one of a hand full of typographic designers developing digital Irish typefaces.
