Designs for “Punt Nua” become an overnight viral and media sensation with coverage on The Saturday Night Show, Liveline, 98FM News, The Daily Show, Irish Independent, Carlow People and Forbes’ website.
Punt Nua is a self initiated design project, exploring the possibility of what a new Irish currency may look like.
There has been a lot of discussion in the media about the possibility of the breakup of the single European currency. This possibility is due to the economic down turn facing the continent and the actions of governments and bankers that have caused the recession.
A national currency is a symbol of national identity and an international ambassador for that nation.
These themes I embodied in the design of the “Punt Nua” notes.
At 7.45am the following morning I was interviewed by the Irish Independent news paper which carried the article “Irish designer comes up with a cheeky take on images for Punt Nua if Euro collapses”. From there it took off with features on 98FM, The Saturday Show, The Daily Show, Tonight With Vincent Browne, a radio interview on RTE’s Liveline with Joe Duffy. Punt Nua designs were also featured on Finnish station YLE.
Other press carried the story including The Carlow People, Forbes.Com and The Irish Echo in Sydney. And Punt Nua was shared tens of 1000’s of time though Google+, Facebook, Twitter and other sharing services.
